The Erl King’s Pumpkin House

This project is inspired by Angela Carter’s short story The Erl King. I chose to illustrate this story metaphorically, taking inspiration from the transition from Autumn to Winter through the narrative and how this mirrors the increasingly sinister events. To visually represent this, I used a pumpkin as the Erl King’s house and gradually let it rot, using the interiors and objects within them to symbolise the specific events. (Pictured are 3 of the 6 original images)

Animating the Pumpkin House

These looping animations were created in order to further the sense of atmosphere in the illustrations. They are simple repeating animations to give the sense of capturing a specific moment.
